"Pélagos" is a Greek word that can be roughly translated into English as "open sea". The vast lands that surround the Mediterranean Sea are characterised by an ancient history made of many peoples that throughout millennia migrated from one end to the other of these amazing landscapes, carrying their own musical heritage over to their new homes and resulting in the spreading and a cross-contamination between traditional music belonging to different cultures.
As to embark the listener on a journey to exotic settings, sounds and moods from the tradition of different lands, this ten-piece ensemble performs compositions inspired by different musical atmospheres from across the Mediterranean area. A re-imagining according to a variety of stylistic influences which span mostly, but non only, through Jazz, Rock and Third Stream, and end up creating an imaginative blend of written and improvised music.
